Resolve to Be.

I've started this blog over several times. Trying to find a way to point to the truth of fitness at the time of year when every one is trying to sell you on your fears (fears they made up so they can sell you a cure). One post I started is a "the fitness industry is The Matrix", allegory (self righteous yawn). I had another go at it in which I point out how all the resolution articles are failing us, even the ones that point out how they all fail us. Luckily I'm not a good enough writer to write myself out of a job.

So I've settled on this. Resolve to Be. Resolve to be YOU. The best version of yourself, NOW, in this moment. Here are some ways you can practice being you.

First, connect with your why (second self righteous yawn).

But wait, this really works, bear with me. One of our first lessons in Precison Nutrition is "the five why's". In short it looks something like this:

1)Why do you want to (insert goal here)?

2)Why is that important to you?

3)And why is that important?

4)What difference will that make?

5)And why does that matter?

Here is an example from a PN client.

"I want to lose weight."

  1. Why do I want to lose weight?
Because I want to fit into a smaller size of pants.

  2. But why do I want to fit into a smaller size of pants?
Because when I’m wearing smaller pants, I think I’ll look better.

  3. But why do I want to look better?
Because when I look good, I feel good about myself.

  4. But why do I want to feel good about myself?
Because when I feel good about myself, I’m more assertive and confident.

  5. But why do I want to be more assertive and confident?
Because when I’m more assertive and confident, I’m in control and better able to get what I want out of life.

This person thought they wanted to fit into smaller pants but when they dug deeper they discovered a desire for a confident life they designed. That is huge! Get in touch with your why. Keep asking Why until you hit the core.

Then there are some simple actions that have withstood the test of time and the rigors of research. Robert Lustig distills them very well in what he calls, "The Four C's", for health and happiness.

1)Connect; eye to eye, face to face.

2)Contribute; make your world a better place.

3)Cope; sleep, practice mindfulness, and exercise.

    4)Cook; prepare your own meals.

"These four things help preserve our brains, our function, our families" -Robert Lustig

I am here to help on any part of your journey.
